Assessment of cognitive impairment or dysfunction for patients with Parkinson's disease quality measure

Quality of Patient Care = Patients Who Meet Criterion / (Eligible Population - Exclusions)

Measure purpose: Ensure patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) are assessed annually for cognitive impairment or dysfunction.

The numerator: Patients (or care partner as appropriate) who were assessed for cognitive impairment or dysfunction once in the past 12 months

is divided by

The denominator: All patients with a diagnosis of PD

Exclusions are removed from the denominator:

  • Patient and/or care partner declines assessment
  • On date of encounter, patient is not able to participate in assessment or screening, including non-verbal patients, delirious, severely aphasic, severely developmentally delayed, with severe visual or hearing impairment, and for those patients, no knowledgeable informant available.

Measure calculation example

Dr. Patel sees 100 patients between January 1 and December 31 that were diagnosed with PD. This is the denominator.

Of the 100 patients, Dr. Patel assessed 33 patients for cognitive impairment or dysfunction. This is the numerator.

Quality of patient care = 33/100. Dr. Patel has a score of 33% for this measure.
