Infectious Disease
Participants should be able to describe the epidemiology and pathogenesis of major emerging and re-emerging neuroinfectious diseases, including viral, bacterial, parasitic, and fungal pathogens; recognize key clinical syndromes associated with emerging neuroinfections such as encephalitis, meningitis, acute flaccid paralysis, and myelitis and develop structured differential diagnoses; apply evidence-based approaches to acute management including antimicrobial/antiviral therapies, immunomodulatory treatments, supportive care, and infection-control strategies; analyze case studies of outbreak-associated neurological disease to identify common challenges and key decision points in clinical care; evaluate global and regional drivers of emerging neuroinfections such as climate change, urbanization, migration, antimicrobial resistance, and zoonotic spillover and articulate their implications for neurology practice; discuss ethical, societal, and communication considerations in managing neuroinfectious threats, including vaccination, public health response, and risk communication with patients and communities; assess health-system capacity and gaps in the diagnosis and management of neuroinfectious diseases, particularly in resource-limited settings; and formulate a multidisciplinary care approach involving infectious disease specialists, intensivists, epidemiologists, and public health authorities for complex neuroinfectious presentations.
