Participants should understand how to map areas of disturbed sensation accompanying neuropathic pain and to rate the severity of allodynia in ongoing pain; able to use a systematic approach to the assessment and management of refractory cancer pain and become familiar with treatment guidelines and educational resources available for cancer pain and palliative care; able to recognize and manage common personality disorders and addictive behaviors; and understand the mechanisms underlying acupuncture analgesia and be able to apply other specific complementary and alternative medicine techniques in chronic pain.
