Neuro-ophthalmology: Participants should be able to differentiate among the many pathophysiologies that can affect the optic nerve; understand the contribution of new technologies and clinical trial results to the field of neuro-ophthalmology; and appreciate that the neuro-ophthalmologic examination and findings are windows into understanding the brain and neurology.
Neurotoxicology: Participants should have a clear understanding of how to diagnose and treat neurological disorders that may accompany illicit drug use and heavy metal toxicity; recognize the neurotoxicity associated with newer pharmaceuticals like chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy and therapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors; be familiar with toxidromes like serotonin syndrome, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome, and reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome; and recognize neurotoxicity associated with cyanide, carbon monoxide, and certain bacterial and animal toxins.
