Cerebrovascular Disease and Interventional Neurology
P4 - Poster Session 4 (5:30 PM-6:30 PM)
4-009
To look of the incidence and prevalence of ischemic stroke in Aseer province.
Looking for types of strokes based on international classification and see which ones are more prevalent in our stroke population.
Looking for the stroke outcome in our population based on Modified ranking scale.
Co-relating outcome with the epidemical factors.
Stroke is one of most disabling pathologies with high rate of dependency afterword. Small
number of studies in Saudi Arabia that describe the patterns of strokes and outcome.
This was a retrospective study of stroke cases admitted to Aseer central hospital, Abha, Saudi Arabia with a primary admitting diagnosis of ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke from 2014 to 2018.
562 are identified , mean age is 63 years old ±17 years with male predominance 352 versus 201
female patients. Major risk factors are diabetes mellitus (DM) and hypertension (HTN). Around 9% of patients presented within therapeutic IV-tPA window however more than 65% of patients presented within the therapeutic endovascular window. Ninety-three percent of patients had large artery atherosclerosis, and 17% of patient had poor modified ranking score(MRS)upon discharge.
large artery atherosclerotic disease is considered the most common cause of stroke in our population. DM and HTN are the most common risk factors for strokes. The fact that most of patients are presenting within endovascular therapeutic window, is mandating urgent establishment of endovascular services in all regions across Saudi Arabia, and this is going to create major role for more neurosurgeon and neurologist and radiologist to treat these patients.
