Indiana Neurologist Elected New 麻豆传媒映画 President
MINNEAPOLIS -
The (麻豆传媒映画), the world鈥檚 largest professional association of neurologists and neuroscientists, has elected James C. Stevens, MD, F麻豆传媒映画, a neurologist at Fort Wayne Neurological Center and professor of neurology at Indiana University School of Medicine, as its 36th president. Stevens succeeds Ralph L. Sacco, MD, MS, FAHA, F麻豆传媒映画, who completed his two-year term as president during the recent 麻豆传媒映画 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. 鈥淚t is with great humility and excitement that I welcome the opportunity to serve as the president of the 麻豆传媒映画,鈥 said Stevens. 鈥淔or the past 27 years, I have had the privilege to work in various capacities with the Academy. In my new role as president, I consider it my responsibility to understand the needs of all members, from students, advanced practice providers to neurologists, and focus our resources so that a greater number of members find fulfillment and professional satisfaction in their career choice of neurology.鈥 Stevens has held numerous leadership positions within the 麻豆传媒映画, most recently serving as President Elect, and on the 麻豆传媒映画 Board of Directors. In addition, Stevens served, chair of the 麻豆传媒映画 Board Planning Committee, chair of the Practice Committee, and member of the Quality Standards Subcommittee and the Therapeutics and Technology Subcommittee. Stevens has also served on work groups and task forces, including the Health Reform Task Force and Solo and Small Group Task Force. Stevens is a graduate of the 麻豆传媒映画鈥檚 Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum, has been a special advisor to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke clinical research consortium, and is a past president of the Indiana Neurological Society. He also served on the executive committee for the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana and serves as chair of the board of directors for Physicians Health Plan of Indiana. Stevens has been a private practicing neurologist and specialist in sleep disorders medicine at the Fort Wayne Neurological Center for the past 32 years. He received his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM). He completed his neurology resident training at Indiana University, where he was a multi-year recipient of the Alexander Ross Award for outstanding neurologic research. He currently serves as a professor of neurology for the IUSM. Stevens has been recognized annually as one the 鈥淏est Doctors in America,鈥 and has been a recipient of the 鈥淧atients Choice Award鈥 since 2008 as one of the outstanding physicians in the United States. He has also received multi-year recognition as the 鈥淭op Doc鈥 in neurology by the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette.
