Barcelona Researcher Receives 2014 Movement Disorders Research Award

PHILADELPHIA -

The is awarding the 2014 Movement Disorders Research Award to Eduardo Tolosa, MD, a senior consultant with the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona, Spain. Tolosa will receive the award at the Academy’s 66th in Philadelphia, April 26-May 3, 2014. The Annual Meeting is the world’s largest gathering of neurologists with more than 12,000 attendees and more than 2,500 scientific presentations on the latest research advancements in brain disease. The Movement Disorders Research Award recognizes a significant contribution to research in the understanding, treatment or prevention of movement disorders. Tolosa’s research has focused on the period of Parkinson’s disease—called premotor Parkinson’s disease—before the development of classic motor symptoms. “Our findings may be important for identification of the different causes of idiopathic Parkinson’s disease, a disorder of unknown cause. Also, our studies on indicators of disease progression in the premotor phase of Parkinson’s disease are important for the design of clinical trials to test treatments that might prevent or delay the onset of motor features of Parkinson’s disease,” said Tolosa. Added Tolosa, “I am very happy and pleased to be receiving this award. It is wonderful that a prestigious society such as the 鶹ýӳ is recognizing my research work in the field of movement disorders. This is a great honor for me and a major highlight in my career.” This award is sponsored by the 鶹ýӳ, the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, and the 鶹ýӳ Movement Disorders Section and endowed by the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
