Participants should be familiar with the assessment and acute management of patients with spinal cord injury, including functional classification of patients using the American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale; potential mechanisms for neural repair and motor rehabilitation; management of autonomic dysfunction; the patterns of SCI resulting from modern warfare; addressing sexual function in patients with SCI; and the psychological adjustments needed for societal reintegration.
