Participants should be able to describe the rationale for a competency-based curriculum; define curricular alignment; describe the importance and practicality of using consensus statements as a basis for curricular learning goals; outline the steps necessary to develop, implement, and evaluate a competency-based curriculum; and describe a practical strategy for implementing a competency-based curriculum that includes stepwise development, input from the department chair, and modification of student and resident schedules.
