Cerebrovascular Disease and Interventional Neurology
Upon completion:
Participants should be able to discuss the evidence linking inflammatory markers, sleep apnea, and the metabolic syndrome and carotid stenosis to risk of stroke; recognize when to look for and how to diagnose these conditions in patients with stroke; use markers of inflammation and measures of insulin resistance appropriately in the evaluation of stroke patients; refer patients appropriately for sleep studies; treat patients directly or refer them for appropriate treatment by others; decide when patients should undergo cerebral revascularization; and rationally choose between carotid endarterectomy or carotid angioplasty and stenting.
